Comments
When you leave a comment on our site, we collect the information shown in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser details. This helps us detect spam.
We may send an anonymised, encrypted version of your email address (called a hash) to Gravatar, to check whether you have an account there. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible alongside it, to the public.
Media
If you upload images to our site, please avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Anyone visiting the site can download images and extract that location data.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you can opt to have your name, email address, and website saved in a cookie. This just saves you from re-entering these details next time you comment. These cookies last one year.
Visiting our login page sets a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It holds no personal data and disappears once you close your browser.
When you log in, we set a few cookies to remember your login and display preferences. Login cookies last two days (or two weeks if you tick “Remember Me”), and screen option cookies last a year. Logging out removes your login cookies.
If you edit or publish a post, an extra cookie is saved with the post’s ID. It holds no personal data and expires after a day.
If you shop with us, we also use cookies to run your shopping cart and checkout — keeping track of items you’ve added, and helping our payment processor confirm and complete your order. Without these, checkout won’t work properly.
Embedded content
Pages on our site may include embedded content — videos, images, or articles from other websites. This content behaves exactly as if you’d visited that other website directly: it can collect data about you, use its own cookies, add third-party tracking, and monitor how you interact with it, especially if you’re logged into that site.
Orders and payments
When you place an order, we collect the information needed to fulfil it: your name, contact details, delivery address, and order contents.
Payments are processed securely through PayFast, our third-party payment gateway. We don’t see or store your full card or banking details — these are handled directly by PayFast under their own privacy policy and security standards. We only receive confirmation that payment was successful, along with a transaction reference.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.
Order and payment information is shared with PayFast solely to process your transaction. We don’t sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, we keep the comment and its associated data indefinitely, so we can recognise and approve your future comments automatically rather than holding them for moderation.
If you register an account with us, we store the personal information in your profile. You can view, edit, or delete this information at any time, though your username can’t be changed. Site administrators can also view and edit this information.
Order records are kept for as long as required for accounting, tax, and legal purposes.
Your rights over your data
If you have an account with us, or have left comments, you can ask us for an exported copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can also ask us to delete that data, except where we’re legally required to keep it (for example, financial records related to an order).
